  Refund Policy for Programs

REFUND POLICY FOR PROGRAMS

Refunds may be given up to five (5) working days prior to the beginning of each program. If your cancellation causes the program number to fall below the required minimum, the refund will be contingent upon the vacancy being filled. After classes begin, refunds will be made for the following reasons only: 1) Illness or Injury 2) Moving from the Blount County area 3) Cancellation of the program by Parks & Rec. Refunds will be prorated according to the number of classes already held.  All refunds are subject to a $5.00 administrative cost charge, unless the program has been cancelled by Parks & Rec.

FALL YOUTH SOCCER

Be a part of the world’s most popular sport!  Youth soccer is an excellent way to develop motor skills.  This program is available to boys and girls Ages 5-16.  Each participant will play in every game.  Younger age groups will play “small-sided” soccer.

  • Children will practice 1-2 times per week.
  • Children are placed on teams according to their age and school. 
  • Children Ages 5-12 will be placed on an all-boys/all-girls team.  Ages 13-16 will play co-ed.
  • Shin guards are required.

 

 

SOCCER FOR FUN

For 4-Year Olds

Soccer for Fun is a fundamental, non-competitive introduction to the game of soccer and a great way to introduce your child to this popular sport.  Children will be involved in drills along with playing small-sided scrimmage games.  Shin guards are required.

·         Teams advertise for recruitment of players in the Daily Times (usually in the Sports Section) in late January and early February of each year.

·         Spring practice, which consists of 10 practices, usually begins the last week of February and continues through March.   After spring practice, teams do not practice again until late July.

·         The season will begin with the Jamboree scheduled for August 9th and will conclude October 25th with the Super Bowl.

KIDDIE KORNER PRE-SCHOOL

This kindergarten readiness program is open to children Ages 4-5 and provides developmentally-appropriate learning activities focusing on social, recreational, and educational skills.  Spaces are filled on a first-come/first-serve basis and are limited to 12 children per class. 

 

Fall Session will begin August 4th for Monday/Wednesday Class

and August 5th for Tuesday/Thursday Class.

Rain Policy:  All participants are responsible for calling Parks & Rec.

Occasionally, a decision will need to be made at the courts. A make-up class will be held

Parks & Rec. has partnered with the Maryville Isshinryu School to offer the following classes to youth and adults. This school, the oldest in Blount County, is the only school accredited by the International Isshinryu Karate Association.  Benefits of Karate include self-defense, as well as increased flexibility, concentration, balance, self-discipline and self-respect.

FLY-FISHING INSTRUCTION

Enjoy fly-fishing lessons “made easy” with instructor, Gary Ramsey who has over 40 years of experience in fly-fishing and is a former instructor for Blackberry Farm. Subjects to be covered include casting, flies, knot tying, equipment use, and stream tactics. Class available to individuals Ages 14 & older. This is a great activity for parents and older children to enjoy together. Enroll now to prepare for fly fishing this fall.  A maximum of 6 students accepted.  Includes 4 hours of instruction.

RUBY TUESDAY’S TRIPLE CROWN OF RUNNING

This tenth annual event includes three road races held in the Blount County area: the Spring Sprint (April 12), Scholars Run (August 16), and Reindeer Run (December 7). To be eligible for Triple Crown cash awards and mementos, participants must compete in all three races. The top three finishers in the Male/Female Overall and Masters Divisions win cash awards.  All Triple Crown participants are eligible for Triple Crown door prizes.  Persons who compete only in the Reindeer Run and one other Triple Crown race will be eligible for Triple Crown door prizes worth a minimum of $100 each.  For complete information, contact the Parks & Rec. Scholars Run Road Race & Fun Run/Walk

This event is a 5K (3.1-mile) road race and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and is the second event of the Ruby Tuesday’s Triple Crown of Running.  The race begins and ends on the Maryville College campus. A portion of the proceeds from this race will fund two annual student scholarships sponsored by the Foothill Striders, Inc.  Individual and team competition will take place. Special awards will be given to the overall and masters winners, the top three finishers in each age division, and to the top three teams in the 5K. All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon.

Reindeer Run

This run, which is the third leg of the Ruby Tuesday’s Triple Crown of Running, is a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Empty Pantry Fund. Awards will be given to the overall and masters winners and the top three finishers in each age division. Prizes will also be given to the best Christmas costumes.  All Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon.  The Triple Crown of Running award ceremony will take place at this event.

These classes are taught in a relaxed and non-competitive environment.  Children will grow with grace and rhythm as they are taught proper placement techniques along with a fun, choreographed routine.  There will be an end of session recital without any extra fees or costumes!

KINDERTOTS® for 2-Year Olds

KINDERMOTION® For Ages 3-5 & K-8

Kindertots® is a class specifically designed to help two-year olds develop gross motor skills, movement creativity, physical development and body awareness, while learning numbers, colors, shapes and songs.  This class welcomes both boys and girls.

 

Kindermotion® is a developmentally designed fitness program for boys and girls Ages 3 through 8 which teaches students about fitness, nutrition, and the joy of movement through a variety of motor skills and  imagery and physical development activities.

 

All classes are taught by certified instructors who specialize in teaching young children.  We encourage a parent to participate with the child (though not required) in the Kindermotion Class and join in the fun of movement and exercise!  Cost is an additional $20 for the parent.

HIP HOP DANCE CLASSES

 For Boys & Girls Ages 8 & up

Does your child enjoy hip hop dance reality shows?  If so, have them join the fun in learning some new hip hop moves!  This class offers a great workout in a fun and exciting atmosphere!  Students will learn a routine filled with new hip hop and break dancing moves choreographed to a clean and edited music mix.  There will be a fun performance at the end of each session with no extra fees or dance attire necessary.

GYMNASTICS

MOVEMENT, MUSIC & MORE

For Ages 16 Months - 5 Years

These classes include fun, monthly themes that let your child learn the fun sport of gymnastics while expanding their imaginations.  Music is used to expand on each month’s theme with dancing, singing, rhythm sticks, and musical instruments.  Brain Power and brain building exercises are incorporated each month to stimulate left and right brain activity, sensory awareness, fine motor skills, and kindergarten readiness skills.  Gymnastic Skills are taught in proper progressions on bright, colorful preschool equipment, with all equipment designed and sized for young hands and feet.  Participants will learn beginner through intermediate skills on bars, beams, trampolines, and vaulting, as well as learn and enhance many of the gross motor skills needed.  Classes are taught by qualified adult instructors, each with over 20 years of teaching experience.

 

BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE

TUMBLING GYMNASTICS

For Ages 5-10

This class will teach and enhance skills involving handstands, cartwheels, one-arm cartwheels and bridges for both the very beginner and intermediate students.  Intermediate students will also work on round-offs, backbend kick-overs, front handsprings, and back handsprings.  Classes are taught with proper skill progression for the safety of the child and with enthusiasm and motivation – never intimidation.
