Parks & Rec. offers a variety of day camps each summer in June and July.  Complete details below (but are subject to change).  Refer to our refund policy for information on class withdrawals and cancellations.

NATURE ADVENTURE CAMP (Ages 8-12)

This is a fun, outdoor camp that teaches participants about our environmental surroundings in a fun and positive atmosphere. Campers will learn about stream and forest ecology with emphasis on plant and animal biology and animal signs and tracking in a fun camp setting that also includes nature crafts. Campers will also participate in low ropes course activities.

 

A snack, lunch, and water bottle should be brought each day. Rain gear and an extra set of clothes should be brought in a bag with the child’s name on it the first day and left with the camp director.

This camp includes therapeutic and fun activities adapted for those with disabilities. Activities include arts & crafts, indoor and outdoor games, music and more. Campers should bring a snack and drink each day. Space is limited each week. Registration accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with 2016 campers given first priority until May 15. After that time, new participants will be accepted as space allows.

The purpose of this camp is to provide instruction related to passing and receiving the football. The camp will focus on introducing drills and techniques that will help develop skills related to Quarterback and Receiver play. No food available on site except snacks, which will be available to purchase. Campers need to bring a water bottle, cleats, and tennis shoes for indoor Plyometric training each day.

FUTURE STARS FOOTBALL

SKILLS CAMP (Rising 2nd - 5th Graders)

The purpose of this camp is to provide basic fundamental instruction for all offensive and defensive positions relating to the game of football. Our goal is that each camper gains a better understanding of the football positions that they are interested in through various skills and drills. There will be a 20-minute break between the defensive and offensive instruction at which time snacks and drinks will be available to purchase. Campers need to bring a water bottle, cleats, tennis shoes, and a bag to keep personal belongings in each day. Quarterbacks are encouraged to bring their own league regulation ball if they have one with their name on.

NEW! SEWING 101 CAMP (Rising 2nd - 5th Graders)

June 19-22  (4 days Mon-Thurs) (Registration Deadline: June 5)

Sewing 101 Camp is a beginners’ camp for students who have never worked with a needle and thread. We will start at the very beginning with how to thread a needle and work on our hand sewing skills. On the second day we will introduce the sewing machine, then spend the rest of camp working on a variety of fun hand and machine sewing projects. Projects will include: pin cushion, stuffed animals, needle book, a drawstring supply bag, tea towel aprons, a fairy doll with a leaf bed, animal purse, a button hoop, fun bedroom decor and more!

NEW! FASHION SEWING CAMP (For Rising 4th - 8th Graders)

Fashion Camp is perfect for the young sewist hoping to improve their skills.  Campers will learn how to make simple garments and other fun projects to wear and decorate with. We will sew a simple skirt and pajama pants along with other accessories such as purses and bags. We will also take some ready to wear clothes and learn how to embellish and alter them. Campers will need to provide a pair of their own blue jeans and two blank t-shirts. All other supplies will be provided. Sewing machines will be available, but campers may also bring their own to use.

Campers of all skill levels will participate in an exciting sports-filled camp. Sports stations will be set-up to give children the opportunity to experience as many different activities as possible. Campers will focus on teamwork, individual achievement, and sportsmanship. Our goal is to give your child the most positive sports experience possible, while keeping it fun! Campers should bring lunch and drinks each day. No food available on site except for snacks, which will be available for a small fee.

TRACK & FIELD CAMP

(Boys & Girls Kindergarten through Rising 9th Graders)

The purpose of this camp is to provide instruction related to competing in track and field. The camp will focus on introducing drills and techniques that will help develop speed, proper running form, success in field events (shot put, discus, long jump, high jump, and triple jump), and other important necessities for competing in track and field, and will include instruction for both sprinters and distance competitors. Campers will need to bring a water bottle or something to drink.

PERFORMING ARTS CAMP (Ages 6-17)

An exciting, new camp for the young performing artist! Campers will develop skills that will last a lifetime as they learn a variety of performing arts – theatre, music, circus skills, production skills and more – taught by professionals in each area.

 

The daily schedule includes up to three different learning sessions as well as group or individual performance opportunities. Campers Ages 6-9 will be grouped together in a learning track that includes several elements of the performing arts. Older campers will choose from three focused tracks of study. Track 1 focuses on theatre skills/production and creative music. Track 2 focuses on radio theatre and propmaking/scene design. Track 3 focuses on propmaking/scene design and character development. After campers choose a main track, they select from additional electives of interest. Elective course options may include theatre skills, creative music, mime/character study, unicycle and juggling skills, dance/movement, prop-making/design, storytelling, and more!

 

Instructors include Mark Hamrick (propmaking), Farrah Westerfield (music), Kate Clabough (radio theatre/character development), Keith Borroughs (unicycle/juggling), Tom Toombs (character development/pratfalls), Denise Kirkwood (dance) – and more!

 

Class preferences will be assigned in order of registration, and some electives could fill up quickly. Early registration is highly recommended for those wanting specific sessions. Campers should bring a snack, lunch and water bottle each day.
